Mike Vanden - Gibson F 5 Mandoline

Why a Mike Vanden Gibson? I bought this mandolin in 1980 and it was
apparently Mike Vanden\'s first F5 mandolin. He has since gone on to achieve
acclaim for his mandolins and guitars. However, after gigging it for ten
years the top sank and it eventually cracked on the treble side. I called
Mr. Vanden to ask him to rebuild it but he declined and simply offered to
sell me a new mandolin. What was I to do with my expensive mandolin? I was
very upset with Mr. Vanden\'s after-sales service so I had the mandolin
professionaly re-topped, rebuilt, had Vanden\'s name removed and got it
refinished as a Gibson F5 as I\'d always wanted to own one but found them out
of my price range. So now you get the best of both worlds...a vintage 30
year old Vanden mandolin which is optically a Gibson. The instrument is in
excellent condition, sounds fantastic and is fitted with a Fishman bridge
pick-up.
Vanden mandolins are now over 5000 GBP and Gibsons of this quality cost well
over $10,000 so this one is a bargain at Euro 5190, including a case.
