THE STORY OF SELMER MACCAFERRI GUITARS - Softcover - englisch

The Story of Selmer Maccaferri Guitars traces, for the first time, the history of these remarkable and influential guitars since their creation by Mario Maccaferri in 1931 until the conclusion of their fabrication in 1952, and explores the myth they represent today.
All the Selmer Maccaferri and Selmer models are presented, accompanied by a myriad of photos of artists from then and now, catalogues, press and publicity material and technical documents. Details of construction and identification are all lucidly explained. A gallery of portraits written by French jazz writer and authority Alain Antonietto presents Django Reinhardt, Joseph Reinhardt, the Ferret brothers, Henri Crolla and Didi Duprat. Destined to become a benchmark reference work, this limited new softcover edition, with more than 500 photos on 256 color pages, will finally give these guitars the enlightened recognition they so justly deserve.

Selmer guitars were produced for twenty years, from 1932 to 1952, and were popularized by the great gypsy jazz guitarist, Django Reinhardt, who began playing them as soon as they appeared on the market and played them throughout his career. Today, they are thoroughly associated with his playing and with gypsy jazz. Few of the Selmer Maccaferri guitars were ever made, thus they are extremely rare and much sought after. Yet because they are so significant to the development of 20th century lutherie, they merit appreciation in a work as comprehensive as possible in terms of information and illustration.
